The funding will support The Danny Frodsham and Helsby family and schools Project.

The aim of the project is to boost the children’s sense of belonging to their local community, and therefore their confidence and wellbeing, and to give them a platform where this is celebrated by their schools and families.

The inspiration will be the Danny’s story – rescued from neglect and saved for our community, along with Ukrainian children’s author Iryna Garkusha’s book about helping others and accepting help. The project will include :

  • Weekly family workshops on board the Danny on themes of helping heritage, people, and nature during the summer holidays.

  • A Schools’ programme of visits and workshops, exploring themes suggested by children over the summer related to belonging in the community is scheduled for the Summer Term 2026

  • Child co-created workshops (children will decide audience and content, eg leading an activity they have learned for younger children/older people) throughout 2026

The Daniel Adamson Preservation Society’s mission is to ensure the conservation and operation of the Danny for the learning, enjoyment and wellbeing of all our communities. This is done by:

  1. Keeping people at the heart of the Danny project: a volunteer project, open to all.

  2. Communicating the Danny’s history: reaching all segments of the public, and offering activities relevant and valuable according to the needs and interests of all.

  3. Offering transformational learning experiences
.
  4. Building partnerships, especially those that support getting young people on board
.
  5. Creating a sustainable legacy – ensuring that our cruises and hires, fundraising and grant applications generate income to support maintaining the vessel and embedding her in the communities we serve.
