The grant will fund a project to buy and install an externally located secure defibrillator.

The population of the village is 264 (2021 census) and there are lots of visitors to the Hayrack Church Farm in the village. The defibrillator will be available to all in need, on the outside of the Village Hall.

Anyone calling 999 will be directed to it and given the access code and guided by a call handler in how to use it. St John’s Ambulance First Aid training cites survival rates for a casualty with a cardiac arrest is under 10% with CPR alone, but over 70% with the use of a defibrillator. The nearest defib at present is too far away to help a casualty in the village.

Thornton-le-Moors Parish Council was formed under the Local Government Act of 1894. It is the lowest tier of local government. The main responsibilities of the parish council are: representing the local community, delivering services to meet local needs, and improving quality of life and community well being.

As elected parish councillors we seek to meet the needs of our local community to the extent that we are able to.
